Description
Great 1960's Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Police Assistant Chief Hat & Breast Badge set. The center of the hat badge features the State Seal of Maine in nice relief detail and is surrounded by a black enamel ring that reads: "STATE OF MAINE" and on either side are crossed police batons. The top of the badge features a spread winged, bowed head eagle and the base of the base reads: "ASS'T CHIEF" surrounded by black enamel detail. The reverse shows a nice maker's mark that reads: "D LAVIGNE MIAMI". The breast bade features a nicely detailed enamel Maine State Seal and above it reads: "ASST. CHIEF POLICE" and below: "NAVAL ACTIVITIES PNSY" and the badge is topped with an eagle.

CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Enameled, gilt chrome plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:Hat: Single post with screwback; Breast: Vertical kick pin with drop in locking swivel catch.

CONDITION:7- (Very Fine-): The badge set shows moderate wear, the hat badge shows a spot of tarnish/oxidation at the base of the badge, nearly all of the plating and enameled details remain intact.
