ARTIFACT: Great 1919 participant badge from the Inter-Allied Games at Pershing Stadium in Paris, France. Participation in the sporting event was only open to current or former military personnel who had served during WWI. Eighteen nations and over a thousand athletes competed in nearly twenty different sports. The US Military worked in unison with the YMCA to construct the stadium and put on the games. When the games were finished the stadium was offered to France as a gift from the United States. The large bronze badge features an eagle perched on the top, wings spread and holding a wreath in its beak, the outer edge of the badge is a nicely detailed with laurel and oak leaves. The center reads: "INTER-ALLIED GAMES PERSHING STADIUM PARIS" with "L. CARIAT" in the bottom corner and the base of the badge shows the year: "1919" in raised detail.
