ARTIFACT:
What we have here is a ca 1937 or 1938 (Wing was Authorized in 1937) US Army Air Corps Senior Pilot Wing by premier San Francisco Maker, Irvine & Jachens. Irvine & Jachens did not stay in the wing market for long, so these in-between-the-wars beauties are hard to find. But finding one in this condition is nearly impossible!
If you could go back in time to 1937, and step into the BX at an old Northern California Army Air Field, you MIGHT be able to find a better example of this wing! This wing has about 99% of its original lacquer in place, giving us a rare glimpse of what one of these looked like when it was new. It is as if the wing came out of a time capsule. It would be almost impossible to improve on this rare wing.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1937.
SIZE:
Approximately 1-1/8" in height x 3" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Sterling silver.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal pin with come-under locking catch.
MARKINGS:
IRVINE & JACHENS
S.F.
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a WWII United States Army Air Forces senior pilot wing collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MEJJM17 LAEGEX07/16/22 SADJJX07/27/22
