Description

ARTIFACT: This is an Extremely Rare, One of only 2 that we've seen World War I US Air Service AEF Pilot's Card of 2nd Lt. Heber W. Peters

Eventual 1st Lt. Heber Wallace Peters was born 3 December 1893 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Died 27 December 1971 in Summit, New Jersey where he was living at the time.

Before he joined the Army in 1917 he worked for Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit, Michigan as an assistant to the President.

He was a member of the Cornell Class of 1914.

He enlisted on 22 July 1917 in Detroit and may have been sent to Camp Kelly, Texas where he was attached to the 33rd Aero Squadron which was never sent overseas. He was later sent overseas to France and received flying instruction at Tours and Chateauroux before completing his training at Issoudun where he became a flight instructor. He was stationed in Bordeaux for a time after the Armistice. He did receive some type of a GHQ Citation, which further research should bring to light. He was Discharged on 16 April 1919.
