ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare sterling silver 1943 United States Merchant Marine Union "Torpedoed" lapel pin. The pin reads SMEA 1943 and shows a torpedo at the center. The SMEA was the Sun Marine Employees' Association, the association for the "enlisted" sailor ranks on board the Sun Oil Company, better known as SUNOCO, Fleet of Oil Tankers.

We've managed to find 4 USMS "Torpedoed" pins in our 30+ years of business, only 1 from this Union, so the scarcity of this type of pin cannot be overemphasized.

VINTAGE: Circa 1943, during World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 5/16" in height and 3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Sterling silver.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with "C" catch.

MARKINGS: STERLING.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Merchant Marine collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAAX08 LCDEX11/10 IDd01/19 SLEGEX04/04/21 SEBEX09/24

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): Pin has some medium wear and tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
