What we have here is a lovely Squadron Badge for EITHER, the 1st Group of the Luftwaffe Combat Bombing Squadron 53, LEGION CONDOR, Active in EVERY Phase of WWII from POLAND- ON, OR, a predecessor badge of a Bomb Squadron, or THE Bomb Group, Kampfgruppe 88, of THE Condor Legion.
The jury is currently out. This was sold to me as a Legion Condor squadron badge, from the Spanish Civil War. It was found in Spain. I located it in an obscure German reference book, which ID'd it as the badge of Kampfgeschwader 5BUT, all reference I can find of the Kampfgeschwader 53 insignia shows the Eagle facing Downward, NOT Upward, and places it on a Shield instead of the Legion Condor AIRCRAFT RONDEL. So, I am leaning toward an actual LEGION CONDOR AVIATION UNIT BADGE until proven otherwise.
World War II.
