ARTIFACT:
Extremely rare circa 1965 - 1967 Casper Platoon 173rd Airborne Aviation Brigade pocket hanger, hand embroidered in Bien Hoa. The Casper Platoon was the U.S. Army Aviation's only platoon in Vietnam during the war. Caspers flew a variety of missions from reconnaissance to engaging in combat. The Platoon's website denotes that this patch was the first of three different designs worn by the Caspers during their time in Vietnam. It is said to have been worn by the original crew between 1965 - 1967 and depicts 'Casper' waving his hand while standing in front of a helicopter that reads: "ARMY" on the tail. Beneath are embroidered pilot and paratrooper wings. The patch is red and blue with white embroidered details and reads: "CASPER PLT" along the top and "173D ABABDE".
