ARTIFACT:
This is an Early Colonial/ Revolutionary War Period shoe buckle. It would function very similarly to a belt buckle with the snake tongue hinge to hold the shoe belt in place.
VINTAGE:
Circa Colonial/ Revolutionary War
SIZE:
Approximately 3" x 2-1/2" x 1-1/4"
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Iron
ATTACHMENT:
Hinges
MARKINGS:
None
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a Colonial Americana collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEX13 LBHX03/17 SBEX7/18
CONDITION:
4+ (Very Good): The buckle has quite a bit of rust on it, as expected from the age. It looks as if someone has attempted to fix it with twine to hold it in place.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
