Description
Scarce circa 1900 United States Life Saving Service medal from the Surf Man's Benevolent Association in bronze with a silk ribbon. The medal features a lifesaving buoy with a paddle and spear crossed in the front. Surrounding the edges of the buoy in embossed lettering, it reads: "U. S. LIFE SAVING SERVICE". The medallion is suspended from a bar which reads: "S. M. B. A." and is topped with the breast of a spread-winged eagle. Attached to the reverse of the bar is a red, white, and blue vertically striped ribbon.
VINTAGE:Circa 1900.
SIZE:Approximately 1-1/2" in width by 4" in height.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Bronze with silk ribbon.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal pin with a "C" catch.

CONDITION:6- (Fine): Very minor wear to the bronze but with much tarnishing and the ribbon is moderately torn, frayed and slightly discolored.
