Description
ARTIFACT:
This is a set of circa 1890s opera glasses in gilt brass and mother of pearl made by Lemaire of Paris. These glasses do telescope and have great optics! The bee-shaped maker mark of Lemaire is found on these.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1890s.
SIZE:
Approximately 3-7/8" across lenses, 1-17/16" lens height, 2-1/8" total depth (when retracted).
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:
Gilt brass, mother-of-pearl, glass.
ATTACHMENT:
Rotating dial to telescope.
MARKINGS:
Bee shaped Lemaire maker mark 20 89; Lemaire Ft Paris on rims of eyepieces.
ITEM NOTES:

CONDITION:
7 (Very Fine): The glasses have some abrasions to the brass and light wear to the mother of pearl; some small imperfections inside but not to the lenses - the optics are not impaired.
