This is a 1920s Federation Aeronautique Internationale (FAI) pilot badge. The FAI was founded in 1905 in France by several countries who recognized a need for a group to oversee the new advances in flight that were then taking place. The badge shows a soaring eagle bearing a lozenge reading FAI.
VINTAGE:Circa 1920s.
SIZE:1-1/4" height and 2-1/2" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Sterling and blue enamel.
ATTACHMENT:Horizontal pin with drop-in swivel catch.
MARKINGS:BBCO STER.
