ARTIFACT: This is an Improved Order of Redmen representative medal from the Wahpatuck Tribe of Massachusetts numbered 54 in its original case. The Improved Order of Redmen was founded as a fraternal society in Baltimore in 1834. The medal has two enameled bats, one with a Native American bust reading GREAT COUNCIL and the one below it showing a crested eagle and reading MASS. The medal itself if oval with blue enameled lettering and scenes of the outdoors and a council meeting.

VINTAGE: Circa 1900.

SIZE: Case is 5/8" in height and 5-9/16" in width and 2-7/8" in depth.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-plated brass with enameling; cardboard case lined with velvet and silk.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with "C" catch.

MARKINGS: Case: F.J. GORTON CO. MFG. JEWELERS NO. ATTLEBORO, MASS. U.S.A.

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent): Medal is in wonderful condition with little wear and case is in fair condition.
