ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1880 enlisted man hat or kepi badge for the 8th United States Infantry, Company F. Aside from a brief foray to California, the 8th was assigned to field service in the Arizona Territory during the late 1870s and early 1880s. With the Bannock Indian War and subsequent Apache unrest happening in 1880-1881, and the Geronimo campaign in 1885, Company F saw much action during this particular period of the ongoing Indian Wars. The Company shared living quarters with the 8th Headquarters at Whipple Barracks. The badge is made of lead-filled brass and is in excellent condition.

VINTAGE: Circa 1880.

SIZE: Approximately 1-7/16" in height and 2-7/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Lead-filled brass.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin with C catch.

MARKINGS: None.
