ARTIFACT:

Finally getting around to pricing these unidentified pieces.

This is an unidentified 1920's era, currently unidentified Polish Naval Badge, possibly a Submariner Badge, but also possibly some other type of Polish Naval Badge, possibly even that of a particular ship in the very small Polish Navy.

The badge depicts a sailor riding on the back of a shark, all encompassed inside an oval.

The badge is definitely Polish, having the post-1920 Polish Silver Mark for .800 silver manufactured in Warsaw.

Below this silver content mark is the maker mark, which appears to be in Hebrew.

Above this is the number "2", showing that this was a numbered, issued badge.

For years, with only a casual glance at the tiny silver content mark, we thought the piece to be French made, possibly for the occupying Kriegsmarine in WWII. But recently, we discovered the mark to be early Polish Republic. The silver mark was used from about 1920 to about 1930, putting this badge in the early period of the new Polish Republic.

This is a very exciting find!

VINTAGE: Circa 1920 - 1930.

SIZE: Approximately 1-5/16" in height and 1-7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: 800 or "Coin" Silver.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin (catch is missing).

MARKINGS: The number 2, Polish 1920-30 .800 or coin silver content mark, Warsaw area, and an unidentified maker's mark, appearing to be Hebrew Letters.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a world Naval Insignia collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MCEJL10 LJX3/11 partial ID 05/19 SLGIEX05/12/20
