ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful circa 1960s captain's hat from Toa Domestic Airlines (TDA), a Japanese company that resulted from a merger in 1971 and then changed its name to Japan Air System in 1988. The hat has a bullion embroidery badge and bullion leaves on the wool visor area. The hat was originally owned by pilot D.R. Michaelis, and he reinforced the inner liner with some air mail envelopes. We also have an insignia/badge lot that was owned by the same Captain for sale separately: please see link at the bottom of this page for information.

VINTAGE: Circa early 1970s.

SIZE: No size tag: approximate size 7 1/2.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Wool embroidered in bullion thread, leather, embroidery tape, clear plastic.

ATTACHMENT: Band.

MARKINGS: MICHAELIS, D.R. M TDA- TOKYO INT'L AIRPORT.

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): The hat has some areas of light staining but is in otherwise fine condition.
