Beautiful, mid-1950's United States Air Force 3rd Bomb Group jacket patch. The wool felt patch is Japanese-made in multi-piece felt and embroidered with bullion. The patch features a shield colored with green, blue, and black and embellished with an embroidered prickly pear (cactus) in bullion. The outer edge of the shield shows nineteen black crosses and is topped with a bar of green, black, and bullion. The top features bullion wings with an arm in the center and along the bottom a bullion banner displays the 3Rd Bomb Group's motto: "NON SOLUM ARMIS" (Not By Arms Alone). The Group conducted its first combat missions in Korea in June of 1950 and engaged in reconnaissance sorties, the destruction of Korean supply trails, and protected allies just off shore. The 3rd Bomb Group received Three Presidential Unit Citations before the armistice in July 1953.
Approximately 5" in diameter
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Embroidered multi-piece wool felt, bullion, silk/cotton/polyester thread, treated canvas backing
This is from a USAF collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEJX16 LCGEX4/16
8+ (Excellent): The jacket patch shows minor wear, some bullion separation that does not detract, the bullion and colored felt are bright, overall excellent condition.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
