ARTIFACT: This is a 1990 commemorative badge for the 125th anniversary of the F.D.N.Y. (Fire Department of the City of New York). Now a respected entity, the first manifestation of the F.D.N.Y. garnered some resentment when it was created after the Act of 1865 joined New York City and Manhattan into a Metropolitan District. The new, official metropolitan department of paid firefighters supplanted the volunteer force that had so long been an important part of the City, and not everyone in the wake of the Civil War was content with the situation at first. The badge is numbered 217 on reverse, and has a Blackinton maker mark.

VINTAGE: Circa 1990.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/2" in height and 2-3/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt brass, enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: 217 ©1987 STEVEN SOMER Blackinton¨.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a fire and rescue collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MGEX13 LAHEX7/13 SAHEX11/13

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The badge has only some very light wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
