Description
This is a 1950s Oregon Fire Chiefs' Association life member badge, which was presented to the third Bishop of Baker, Oregon: Francis Peter Leipzig. In the bishop's 21 year office, he renovated and built many churches, reached out to growing Hispanic Catholic populations in his diocese, greatly expanded the priesthood to meet the needs of his flock and authored a supplement to the "Catholic Sentinel". The badge reads FOR SERVICES PERFORMED IN THE INTEREST OF HUMANITY IN THE TEACHING OF FIRE SAFETY on its reverse. The badge is very fine and delicately detailed.
