Description
ARTIFACT: This is an author-signed copy of "A Wartime Log". This book was published in China by Howell Press in 1994 by Art and Lee Beltrone, former reporter for Newsweek and editor/writer/photographer, respectively. The book is a compilation of memories, both written and visual, of American prisoners-of-war in Germany during World War II. The YMCA donated several blank books for this creative and cathartic purpose. Pictured above the Liberty Bell on the book's cover is a hand-made version of a POW wing made by an interred airman. The interminable game of chess is a watercolor by another airman. The book features many black and white period photographs, color illustrations, and has information on life in a German prisoner-of-war camp. It is inscribed on the first page to a contributor to the book.
