This is an 8th Battalion Canadian Railway Troops collar badge. The badge is shaped like a maple leaf with a crown near its top and reads A square cut out of the leaf with a velvet background bears a brass square, presumably to echo the shape of a railroad spike head.
VINTAGE:Circa World War I.
SIZE:1-11/16" height and 1-5/8" width.
CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS:Lacquered brass with brass details and fitting and velvet inset.
ATTACHMENT:Two loops for attachment.
MARKINGS:J. R. GAUNT LONDON.

CONDITION:8 (Excellent-): Badge shows light wear and has a handsome patina; velvet has lifted slightly in one spot.
