Description
This is a 7-color factory engraved advertising Zippo lighter made for the Gateway Tire Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. The lighter has its original insert and shows a caricature of an old, bearded Confederate soldier still carrying his Rebel flag. Note:Philip Taggart, author of the soon-to-be-released book "ZIPPO & THE AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE" writes, "I have a lighter, from 1972, with the same figure on it, but advertising a Different company: TUBES TIRES AND WHEELS in Clarksdale Mississippi. The neat thing is that my version of this lighter is pictured in my Book ZIPPO & THE AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE As an example of a six color lighter, which is very rare. Your lighter shows that this artwork was an IN HOUSE design.. not custom designed by the ordering company, but among a group of designs pre-done by the Zippo art staff.. This is a neat tidbit of info, and I am going to revise the caption of my lighter to include it in my book. Thanks!"
