ARTIFACT: This is a framed United States Air Force Certificate of Award for Meritorious Achievement presented to Major Robert B. La Forest of the 102nd Tactical Fighter Wing for service during the Berlin Wall Crisis of 1961-1962. The 102nd departed Logan Airport in Boston just before the end of October 1961 for Phalsbourg, France, serving there until the summer of 1962. The document is signed by then-Brigadier General Charles W. Sweeney, the World War II US Army Air Forces pilot of the B-29 Bockscar, the aircraft that dropped the atomic bomb on Nagasaki.

VINTAGE: Circa 1962.

SIZE: Approximately 17-3/4" in height and 14-5/16" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Paper, glass, wood, paper backing, wire, metal hardware.

ATTACHMENT: Two eye hooks with wire.

MARKINGS: Signed by Charles W. Sweeney (see write-up above).
