This is a 1949 Oregon Chauffeur Badge #36837
From the early to middle part of the 20th century automobile operation was still relatively new and working as a taxi driver or limo driver, chauffeur, or other vehicle operator for profit usually required a license. Many times these licenses took the form of metal or tin badges with a number and the location where the license was granted. ChauffeurÂ’s badges were simply a way for a driver to assure his passenger that he was in compliance and could safely operate a vehicle.
