ARTIFACT: Nice, 1943 dated WWII United States Navy Naval Aviator Certificate in carrying case with 1944 instrument flying rating card to USN pilot Lieutenant J. J. Gilbert H. Holseph. The front of the carrying case reads: "UNITED STATES NAVY NAVAL AVIATOR (CERTIFICATE)" and in the center bears a USN emblem and surrounding it reads: "DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY BUREAU OF NAVIGATION". The inside features the certificate and photo identification of the pilot. The certificate reads: "DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY Date 25 Sept., 1943 NAVAL AVIATOR No. NO 71, This Certifies that Gilbert Helpher HOLSETH Lt. (jg) A-V(T), USNR born 20 day of Feb. 1909 having fulfilled the conditions prescribed by the United States Navy Department was appointed a NAVAL AVIATOR on 25 September 1943 P.E. GILLESPIE, Cdr. A-V(G), USNR" and opposite the certification is a period photo in excellent condition and beneath it the handwritten date, name, rank, and service.
The instrument rating card reads: "UNITED STATES NAVY AND MARINE CORPS Station ATLANTA, GA No. 2 Issued 15 JULY ' 44 Expires 14 JULY '45 This is to certify that G.H. HOLSETH Rank LT. (JG) Corps USNR has passed the test in Instrument Flying prescribed for pilots for a "RESTRICTED INSTRUMENT RATING" by the Chief of Naval Operations. WM. W. WHITE COMDR., USN."

CONDITION: 9- (Excellent+): Carrying case shows minor wear mostly to the vinyl inside, the photograph and certificates are in remarkable condition, overall excellent condition.
