ARTIFACT: This is a 1930s 69th Regiment of Infantry the Fortress (69eme Regiment d'Infanterie de Forteress) badge associated with the Maginot Line, a French line of defense erected from Switzerland from Luxembourg during the 1930s. The badge is turret-shaped with a magnificent thistle silhouette embellished by twin salamanders. The badge reads "Haute Seille - Qui S'y Frotte S'y Pique", which roughly translates to "Upper Seille - if you meddle, you will be burnt".

VINTAGE: Circa 1930s.

SIZE: About 1-1/4"in width by 1-1/4" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silver with gold plating and blue paint.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin with a C catch.

MARKINGS: ARTHUS BERTRAND PARIS DEPOSE.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): Mostly minor surface wear; much of the gold on the front has worn off.
