ARTIFACT:

This is a 1910s member badge for the Cuban-American Jockey Club (CAJC). Created in 1915, Oriental Park Racetrack at Marianao (in Havana) was the first racing venue in Cuba and the site for the CAJC events. Americans thoroughbred owners brought their horses to the island to race and anyone who was anybody went to watch: even ladies were permitted to attend Wednesday afternoon races starting in 1920. The badge is in rolled gold with enameled Cuban and American flags crossed at center. The poster shown is not included and is a Kerne Erickson work.
