ARTIFACT: This is a medal and lapel pin for the 8th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, Company G. The medal is very finely wrought and touts EFFICIENCY IN MANUAL OF ARMS. The medallion hangs from an eagle and above that, a FIRST PRIZE bar. At center is a sunburst behind a torch and reads 8 REGIMENT G INFANTRY, MVM, and this central design is repeated in the lapel pin. The medal is dated April 4, 1910 on reverse.

VINTAGE: Circa 1910.

SIZE: Medal: 3-1/8" in height x 1-3/4" in width; lapel pin:3/4" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-plated brass with blue and white enameling.

ATTACHMENT: Medal: horizontal T-style pin with "C" catch; lapel pin: single screw post with disc backing.

MARKINGS: APRIL 4, 1910 on reverse of medal.

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): Medal and pin both have a small spot of discoloration/oxidation but have a beautiful glow and very light wear otherwise.
