ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1890s advertising celluloid pin for Studebaker, from their pre-automobile production days. Founded in 1852, the Studebaker Brothers Manufacturing Company of Fort Bend, Indiana started by making wagons for military, civilian and agricultural use. It was not until 1902 that Studebaker got started doing what it is now best known for. This pin shows a blue number 3 against a red background and lists "Wagons, Carriages & Harness" as its product line. The pin was made by the Whitehead & Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey.

VINTAGE: Circa 1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 7/8" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Celluloid-wrapped tin, paper backing.

ATTACHMENT: Straight pin.

MARKINGS: The Whitehead & Hoag Company Newark, NJ label.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an old manufacturing collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJX14 L/SFJX3/14

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The pin has some light wear only.
