ARTIFACT: This is a extremely rare 1941 National Ski Patrol Systems (NSPS) Patroller / Member badge, and it is a must-have for any WWII 10th Mountain Division collector.

Although the NSPS was founded in 1938, this was the First Badge Issued by the Organization.

The NSPS (eventually NSP) director, Charles Minot ("Minnie") Dole, was the force behind the creation of the 10th Mountain Division. After Latvian soldiers on skis routed the Russian Army in their tanks in late 1939, Dole was able to bend the ear of General George C. Marshall, the United States Army Chief of Staff at the time. Because of this, the 87th Mountain Infantry Battalion, also known as "Minnie's Ski Troops" was born one day after the Pearl Harbor Attack. It was eventually assimilated with other battalions into the 10th Mountain Division, which was originally called the 10th Light Infantry Division (Alpine).
