This is an Early Colonial/ Revolutionary War Period shoe buckle. It would function very similarly to a belt buckle with the snake tongue hinge to hold the shoe belt in place.
Circa Colonial/ Revolutionary War
Approximately 3” x 2-1/2” x 1-1/4”
This is from a Colonial Americana collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VEX13 LBHX03/17
4+ (Very Good): The buckle has quite a bit of rust on it, as expected from the age. It looks as if someone has attempted to fix it with twine to hold it in place.
As with all my items, this piece is guaranteed original, and of the period stated.
