ARTIFACT: Ultra-rare WWII Chinese American Composite Wing jacket patch circa 1944. The beautifully stitched, multi-piece leather patch depicts an intricately painted dragon and flying tiger in the center. Above is a crescent of red and white stripes and at the center, a white five pointed star and sun. At the top of the patch, lovely painted leather wings show two hands shaking in the center and the bottom of the patch reads: "C. A. C. W." The Chinese American Composite Wing served in addition to the 14th Air Force and contained pilots from both, the Republic of China and America and entered the China Theater in 1943 stationed at Kunming. The C. A. C. W. flew late model P-40 Warhawks and B-25 Mitchell light bombers. Many of the C. A. C. W. bases were located with regions of China that were under Japanese occupation or control. All of the US pilots that served in the C. A. C. W. were listed as pilots in the Chinese Air Force and were authorized to wear the wings of both nations.

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The patch shows minor to moderate wear and overall foxing, a small, round hole was made in the top of each corner. There is a slightly visible puncture in the bottom of the viewer's left corner that does not detract, the leather is soft and supple and the painted details remain in remarkable condition.
