ARTIFACT: Gorgeous early WWI French Aircraft Altimeter by L. Hatot. This example is set up for 4-way spring shock-resistant installation and bears the serial number: "10915". Leon Hatot of Paris was a student at the School of Horology in Besançon and the École des Beaux-Arts in Besançon and soon became well known for producing high quality products including aero instruments, the dial mark "Aviation Militaire" dates its use for the French Military Air Service. The center reads: "AVIATION MILITAIRE", "L.HATOT FABRI BESANCON", BAROMETRE ALTIMETRE", "COMPENSE". The string is not original, but was added a long time ago to display the altimeter on a wall.

VINTAGE: Circa WWI

SIZE: Approximately 3-3/4" in diameter x 1-1/4" thick; 4-1/2" x 3-7/8" including stabilizer rings

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Steel, glass, brass, rope,

ATTACHMENT: Four rings for stabilization in cockpit, old string attached a long time ago for hanging display.

MARKINGS: "10913", "AVIATION MILITAIRE L.HATOT FABRI BESANCON BAROMETRE ATLIMETRE COMPENSE"

ITEM NOTES: This is from a French Aviation collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. LABGEX9/15 SAJJJX01/17

CONDITION: 5+ (Fine-): Altimeter shows moderate to heavy wear mostly to case, unsure if it is currently in working condition, glass shows moderate wear, overall fine condition.
