ARTIFACT: Circa 1959 United States Air Force 32nd Fighter Inceptor Squadron jacket patch. The center depicts the squadron's emblem of a wolf caricature surrounded with a wreath embellished and topped with a royal crown. The base of the wreath shows a small red oval that reads: "32" and the base of the patch shows a golden yellow banner lined in bullion and it reads: "FTR. INTCPT. SQDN. (USAF)". In 1959, the 32nd Fighter-Interceptor Squadron received the signature "e;Royal"e; and with this the House of Orange – The Dutch Royal Family's crown and wreath were added to the emblem. The Royal signature was given to honor and recognize the vital contribution to the defense of The Netherlands the 32nd Fighter-Inceptor Squadron provided. The example was removed from a flight jacket and during the process the crown was damaged.
