Ext Rare WWI US Army Military Intelligence Badge #4 and Grouping of William L. Moffat Jr.

ARTIFACT:

What we have here is an Extremely Rare WWI US Army Military Intelligence Agent Badge, #4, along with three WWI Service Medals, four Officer’s Commission Documents of the original wearer, William Lincoln Moffat Jr., of Brooklyn New York. The Large Cased Table Medal is also extremely rare, the Williams College WWI Service Medal. The other 2 medals are the US Federal WWI Service Medal, and the WWI Service Medal issued by the State of New York.

We had one other example of this extremely rare badge, that came out of the estate of eventual General Ralph Henry Van Deman, the “Father of Military Intelligence”. And although there were 282 Military Intelligence Officers by the end of WWI, this badge and the one from Van Dema’s estate are the ONLY TWO THAT WE KNOW OF. The badge from Van Dema’s estate was numbered 00, and this one is numbered 4, meaning they were both form the first batch made by American Railway Supply in New York City.

If you are a collector of US Federal and/or Military Badges, this is one that is nearly impossible to acquire.

 Leather Wallet: 3” in height x 2-3/16” in width. The Williams Medal: 2-7/8” in diameter.

WWI Victory Medal: 2-3/4” in height x 1-1/2” in width. WWI Service Medal: 2-1/2” in height x 1-1/2” in width. Document: 12” in height x 8: in width x 2 pieces. 10-1/2” in height x 8” in width x 2pieces.
