ARTIFACT: A bit of a mystery here, but with some great clues! This is a fabulous clan-type badge of early Rurales Captain F. J. King, possibly an American of Scottish descent, possibly worn by King in his duties as a Rurales Capitano, just as a Lawman in the US might wear a "Tin Star". The clan badge is that of the Clan Michie (a sept of the Forbes Clan) and is hand made of unmarked silver in almost full 3-D relief. A big clue in the mystery, the badge is engraved phonetically on the reverse: Captano (for "Capitano") F.J. King Ruales (for "Rurales": there is no "Ruales Mexico"), Mexico 1913. Not certain if King's ancestry traced back to the Michie Clan or if the badge was worn for the saying: "For Fatherland and Freedom", but either way, it appears Capitano King took his position in the infamous Rurales very seriously!
