ARTIFACT: This is a Rare Ca 1900 - 1910 United States Society of Colonial Wars Membership Badge in 14K Gold (MARKED). It is engraved to Member PA 303, probably being from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Society. The medal was manufactured by the J. E. CALDWELL & Co., a prolific producer of Society Medals. Caldwell often did not put Gold Content markings on their badges, but this medal IS marked 14K on the top starred shield, above the letter O in the word COLONIAL, at 12:00 on the reverse of the medal.

Interestingly, I took the medal to a high end dealer of coins & bullion, and the X-ray machine tested it at better than 18K, so it may have a higher god content than listed, or it may have a heavy, higher karat gold plating over the base of 14K gold. The medal weighs in at 29 grams, or 18.6 pennyweight, inclusive of ribbon.

VINTAGE: Circa 1900's - 1910's.

SIZE: The medal itself is 2" in height and 1-1/2" in width, and the ribbon measures approximately 1-1/4" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: The medal is Unmarked but tested 14K Gold with enamel and a silk ribbon.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with C catch attached to the back of the ribbon.

MARKINGS: PA 303 on the reverse base of the crown.

14K on starred shield at 12:00 on the reverse.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a large collection of medals which we will be listing more of over the next months. VBEJX15 LACGEX08/13/19 SLAEGEX04/24/22 SAEGEX04/24/22

CONDITION: 9+ (Excellent - Mint-): The Badge is in Excellent Condition, with some light wear to the silk ribbon.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
