Absolutely Stunning Ca. 1920's Mt. Vernon, NY Fire Commissioner Badge in 14K Gold.
ARTIFACT: This beautiful badge was exquisitely hand made by some unknown maker in the Mt. Vernon, NY area. The wreath and eagle are practically 3-dimensional. The pictures do this badge no justice, as the badge is a bright yellow and rose gold, with bright hard fired translucent red enamel. The panels and center seal are riveted to the badge. It is really a masterpiece. The Mount Vernon New York Fire Department has had a Fire Commissioner at the top of its chain of command since at least the 1920's, and this badge surely dates from the earliest period of the Fire Commissioners' office. A work of art aesthetically, and a historically significant piece, from a New York City suburb, this badge would be a centerpiece of any Fire Collection.
