ARTIFACT: Extremely rare WWII United States Marine Corps VMB 613 Jacket Patch depicting a yellow winged, 'aviator' monkey riding a missile while firing a machine gun. Silk screen printed in theater, one of only 8 known. All come from the estate of Tech. Sgt. Charles F. Coers a Navigator/Bombadier with the unit. In February 1943, the Marine Corps began to receive its first B-25 bombers, which were renamed PBJ's. Seven PBJ squadrons reached the Pacific before the war ended: VMB-413, -423, -433, -443, -611, -612 and -613. On 6 Feb. 1945, VMB-613 participated in a raid against Ponape Island. [1]
