
SUBJECT:
This is a large Japanese military box that was most likely used to store instruments. Made of a handsome wood, it has dovetail joints, Japanese characters painted on the top and a plaque fastened to the front with more Japanese writing. Part of a tag bearing some penciled numbers hangs from one handle.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
15-9/16” height and 26-1/4” width (including handles) and 15-9/16” depth.
CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS:
Painted wood with plated brass and brass hardware, paper and twine.
ATTACHMENT:
Two handles, keyhole, 2 chest clasps, two hinges and one interlocking clasp.
MARKINGS:
Plaque with Japanese on front.
