ARTIFACT: Interesting circa 1910 GAR & USWV Ladies' Auxiliaries Honorary Member badge for Winchester Post #197, New York, GAR by Whitehead & Hoag Co., New Jersey. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) is a fraternal organization for the Union veterans of the Civil War and the United Spanish War Veterans (USWV) is the fraternal organization for veterans of the Spanish-American War. The planchet is suspended from a red, white, and blue ribbon and brass ring and shows a pair of hands shaking in the center, and surrounding it reads: "HONORARY MEMBER WINCHESTER POST No. 197 DEP. N.Y. G.A.R. 1861 - 65 1898" in red, white, and blue enamel detail. The brass pin bar reads: "F.C.&L. - F.P.&H." in embossed lettersÉF.C.&L. stands for "Faith, Charity, and Love" and F.P.&H. stands for "Freedom, Patriotism, and Humanity".

VINTAGE: Circa 1910

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/8" x 1-3/8"; Planchet: 15/16" in diameter

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass, enamel, silk ribbon

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with 'C' type catch

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The honorary badge shows moderate wear and soiling, much of the plating and enamel details remain intact, overall very fine condition.
