
SUBJECT:
This is a powder flask with a patriotic design in relief on both faces used by United States Army riflemen during the 1830s-1840s, including during the Mexican War. The flask has a gauge above the neck which at one time would register from 2 to 2-3/4 full in ¼ increments.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1830s-1840s.
SIZE:
9” height and 3-7/8” width and 1-5/8” thickness.
CONSTRUCTION/MATERIALS:
Bronze with twine and brass fittings.
ATTACHMENT:
Two triangular loops with twine.
MARKINGS:
IMPROVED PATENT JAMES DIXON & SONS SPRINGFIELD (?) 2 2 1/4 2 1/2 2 ¾ DRAMS.
