ARTIFACT: This is a striking 1944 United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve, or SPARS, recruiting poster. The poster tells the reader to MAKE A DATE WITH UNCLE SAM, who looks very optimistic about his chances with the lovely female enlistee on his arm. The artist is Bradshaw Crandell, whose advertising art was widely published as early as the 1920s and very recognizable.

VINTAGE: Circa 1944.

SIZE: Approximately 41-7/8" in height by 28" in width (not including foam board).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: This poster is shrink-wrapped to a piece of foam board. It will be shipped unwrapped and rolled without the foam board, unless arrangements are made for pick-up or special shipping to preserve the shrink wrap mounting.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: BRADSHAW CRANDELL; NO. 50-44.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Coast Guard collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJR05 LDEJX7/11 SAEJX11/16

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The poster is in excellent condition with only two very, very slight wrinkles and the very tip of one corner either bent or missing. There are no creases or pin holes.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
