ARTIFACT: This is it! The southwest was littered with POW camps during WWII, and the Camps were often military bases. You sometimes will see Military Police badges or the like from these places, but you RARELY IF EVER see actual GUARD badges! Clearly stated, in large letters at top: GUARD, followed by the badge number, and then CAMP BOWIE TEXAS all on a no-nonsense, no-question bright nickel-plated diamond, visible all the way across the compound in the harsh Texas sun. A wonderful addition to any WWII POW Collection. Built as the base for the 36th Division of the Texas National Guard in 1940, Camp Bowie was the third such camp to be named for James Bowie, famous defender of the Alamo and wielder of his namesake hunting knife. In 1943 the Camp started to receive German prisoners of war, some who had fought under none other than the Desert Fox (Rommel) himself. The camp was closed in 1946.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Approximately 2-3/8" in height and 1-3/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated nickel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety-style pin.

MARKINGS: 39 on front.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a WWII United States Army POW camp guard collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAHHX14 LDEJX2/14 SDJJX03/20

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The badge has some small spots of light wear and tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
