ARTIFACT: Gorgeous early 1930's Sandusky Cement Co. Safety Committee Member badge in gold fill and enamel. The cement company was located in Erie County, Ohio along the Sandusky Bay. It was originally named the Sandusky Portland Cement Company, established by three brothers in the 1890's, also known as the Medusa Portland Cement Company, the cement company was in business until the 1960's Clearly visible in the photo are the silos from the Medusa Portland Cement Company. Portland cement was a special mixture invented by the father of the founding sons, a geologist named John Newberry. The badge features a nicely detailed raised center disc that depicts Medusa's head. The disc is atop a white and green enamel background. The entire badge is nicely detailed, a banner/scroll along the top reads: "SAFETY" and just below, hand-engraved, "COMMITTEE", and along the bottom it reads: "THE SANDUSKY CEMENT CO." The reverse shows a maker's mark that reads: "A. L. WILLIAMS & CO. MFG. JEWELERS CHICAGO, ILL."

VINTAGE: Circa 1930's.

SIZE: Approximately 1-3/8" x 1-1/8".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold fill, enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with drop in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: "A. L. WILLIAMS & CO. MFG. JEWELERS CHICAGO, ILL."

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The badge shows minor to moderate wear, nearly all the enamel and gold fill details remain intact.
