This is a circa 1910s-1920s alligator-shaped nutcracker from the 1910s-1920s. This nutcracker’s oft-repeated design was originally patented by the British company, Nestor. The details on the alligator are fine, from his scaly segments to his well-formed teeth to his scallop-shaped “claw” feet. This dashing reptile is equally content at rest or cracking a nut between his jaws.
Approximately 8” in length.
NESTOR MADE IN ENGLAND under back portion; serial number RD. 699159 under chin.
This is from a decorative antiques collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. LAAEX2/11
8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The nutcracker shows some light wear with small spots of tarnish and is in fine working condition.
As with all my items, this piece is guaranteed original.
