This is a large eighteenth century medallion made of bronze, and may possibly have either religious or patriotic meaning. The medallion shows a scene in relief of a robed man seated upon a rock holding a staff and a tablet. At first glance the scene appears to be religious, maybe even from the Ten Commandments story, but one can almost glimpse a resemblance to Ben Franklin, and at his feet sits an eagle, rather than a dove.
Circa eighteenth century.
Approximately 2-5/8” in diameter (attachment juts out ¼”).
Flat suspension loop.
This is from a miscellaneous collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MDJX09 LAJJX12/10
7- (Very Fine-): The medal shows moderate wear and areas of tarnish.
