ARTIFACT:
Rare 1946 United Nations badge from New York. Either from the building of the U.N. Building Cornerstone or the Convention of Privileges and Immunities. Prior to 1946, the meetings and conventions of the United Nations were held in scattered areas throughout New York, in 1946 it was decided at the General Assembly in London that the official headquarters would be in NYC. The convention of Privileges and Immunities held in New York in 1946 was fundamental in establishing immunity against local jurisdiction or impunity while carrying out or taking part in U.N. related work. The blue enameled brass pin features a white enameled U.N. emblem, depicting a globe surrounded by two gilt olive branches, around it reads: "UNITED NATIONS NATIONS UNIES NEW YORK 1946" and the reverse features three intricate stamps, one a shield with letters "US" and PIU", the second bears the letters: "IMEU", and the third is the International Jewelers Workers Union stamp featuring the letters: "IJWU"

Circa 1946.

Approximately 1" in diameter.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Painted brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal pin with drop in locking catch.
MARKINGS:
"BASTIAN BROS. CO. ROCH. N.Y." and three stamps, a shield with the letter "US" and "PIU", another with the letters: "IMEU", and the third the International Jewelers Workers Union showing the letters: "IJWU" inside the stamp.
