ARTIFACT: 1930's - WWII Oakland, California Moore Dry Dock Company Worker Badge by Patrick and Co., San Francisco. During WWII, Moore Dry Dock was among the top 100 valued companies for their efforts supporting the war building over 100 ships for the United States Navy. Moore Dry Dock employed thousands of skilled and unskilled African-Americans despite challenges faced during a time of rampant discrimination. To honor their wartime contributions, an inscription at the WWII Homefront National Historical Park reads: "Moore Dry Dock handled the difficult jobs of production, repair and conversion that slowed overall output in other yards." The round worker badge reads: "CAR 2726" in the center and is surrounded by the words: "MOORE DRY DOCK COMPANY".
