ARTIFACT:
Beautiful 1916 date marked, Birmingham Silver Torpedo & Lifebuoy Ring Badge for the landing of the HMS Ramillies, a Revenge-class battleship of the Royal Navy during World War I. Launched from Dalmuir, Scotland in June of 1916, it wasn't until September of that year she was commissioned, a rudder broken during the launch needed repair. HMS Ramillies joined the 1st Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet in 1917, fully fitted with cutting edge impact resistance for torpedo defense. During the WWII she provided essential fire power from Sword Beach on D-Day in Normandy. The pin is in the shape of a torpedo encircled by a lifebuoy ring (UK terminology) engraved with the letters: "H.M.S. RAMILLIES" and was made by Warstone Lane, Birmingham jeweler Frank H. Mannox, the reverse shows the maker's mark, Birmingham silver mark, and date stamp (see photo).
