ARTIFACT: This is a 1908 new and revised (third) edition of "The Horticulturalist's Rule-Book: A Compendium of Useful Information for Fruit-Growers, Truck-Gardeners, Florists and Others" by Professor L. H. (Liberty Hyde) Bailey. Bailey founded the College of Agriculture at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. This book was published by Macmillan Company as part of their "Garden-Craft" Series. The book was originally published in 1889 by Bailey, who was born in 1858 and lived until the age of 96. There are no illustrations, but many charts, including the one pictured above. Chapter topics range from plant breeding and insecticides to preserving produce and postal regulations. The book has a table of contents, glossary and index, as well as a few pages at the end advertising other Macmillan publications. It is in very fine condition.

VINTAGE: Circa 1908.

SIZE: 318 pages (without illustration); approximately 6-3/4" in height and 4-3/4" in width and 7/8" in thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Paper, cloth-covered.
